The information in this article applies to:

 - Microsoft PowerPoint for Macintosh, version 4.0
--------------------------------------------------------------------

SYMPTOMS
========

When you use the Picture command on the Insert menu, you may find that PICT
and MacPaint are the only picture types available. This may occur even if
the EPS-TIFF filter is located in the Microsoft folder.

CAUSE
=====

PowerPoint looks in several different locations to find the files it needs.
You may need to move the filter to a different location.

WORKAROUND
==========

Try putting a copy of the filter into the PowerPoint 4.0 folder. To do
this, use the following steps:

1. Open the Microsoft folder.

2. Open the folder where PowerPoint is located.

3. With both the Microsoft and the PowerPoint folder windows visible on
   your screen, hold down the OPTION key, and then click the EPS-TIFF
   filter to select it.

4. With the OPTION key held down, drag the filter to the PowerPoint 4.0
   folder. This will create a copy of the filter in the PowerPoint
   folder.

You should now be able to import EPS and TIFF graphics in PowerPoint.

Here are some other troubleshooting steps to try:

Method 1: Rebuild the desktop. The preferred method to rebuild the desktop
          file with System 7.5 or any system using Macintosh Easy Open is:

          a. Use Extensions Manager to turn off ALL extensions and control
             panels except Macintosh Easy Open.

          b. Restart your Macintosh.

          c. Hold down the COMMAND (Apple) key and the OPTION key until
             prompted to rebuild the desktop.

          d. Once the rebuild is completed, release the COMMAND and OPTION
             keys.

          If you don't have the Extensions Manager, use steps b-d only.

Method 2: Remove and reinstall the filter using PowerPoint (or Office)
          Setup.
