 - Microsoft Cinemania for Windows, 1996 editions
---------------------------------------------------------------------

SYMPTOMS
========

When you download the Cinemania 96 and Music Central 96 update files
from the Internet site, you experience file corruption problems.

The corrupted files prevent file integration.

CAUSE
=====

If you download the update files from America Online or Net Cruiser,
the files may be incorrectly named and cause an integration failure.

RESOLUTION
==========

Download the self-extracting executable update file.

If the browser you are using is unable to download the standard update file
correctly, download the compressed update file, and decompress the file on
your hard disk.

To download and integrate the compressed update, do the following:

 1. Exit Cinemania or Music Central.

 2. Connect to the Cinemania 96 or Music Central Internet address:

       http://cinemania.msn.com/cdrom

       -or-

       http://musiccentral.msn.com

For Cinemania:

   a. Click the Cinemania 96 Updates hot (jump) text.

For Music Central:

   a. Click on CD-ROM Updates

 3. Click the month you want to download.

 4. Click the Windows Updates option.

 5. At the bottom of the page, click the Troubleshooting Tips hot text.

 6. Click the troubleshooting section "Download a Self-Extractive
Compressed Update file" for Cinemania or "Download a Compressed Update
    file" for Music Central.

 7. Click the desired month.

For example, if the browsing software has trouble opening the
December file, click Save As, click the appropriate month, and save the
    file as Windec95.exe.

 8. Move the compressed file to the Program Files\Microsoft
    Multimedia\Cinemania or \Music Central folder.

9. Double-click the compressed file. The file self-extracts.

NOTE: After the file decompresses, you may need to close the MS-DOS
    window.

10. Rename the file extension to the following:

       <filename>.cin96upd for Cinemania

       <filename>.msc96upd for Music Central

Where <filename> is the name of the update file.

    For example, rename the file,

       Dec95.cin

    to the following:

       Dec95.cin96upd

For more information about using the MS-DOS Rename command (ren),
see your Microsoft MS-DOS manual. On computers running Microsoft MS-DOS
5.0 and later, to access comprehensive information about MS-DOS
commands type the following at the MS-DOS command prompt and press
    ENTER:

       help

11. Click the Start button, point to Programs, point to Microsoft
Multimedia, and then click Cinemania 96 or Music Central 96.

The update file automatically integrates with Cinemania 96 or Music
Central 96.

MORE INFORMATION
================

America Online and some other Internet browsers do not support long
filenames, and when the updates are downloaded through these browsers,
the update file is renamed to an abbreviated filename that Cinemania
and Music Central are not able to recognize or integrate.

To view the new information included in the update files, do the following:

1. Click the Start button, point to Programs, point to Microsoft
Multimedia, and then click Cinemania 96 or Music Central 96.

2. Cinemania 96:

    - Click Find Your Favorites.

   Music Central 96:

    - Click Find A Song.

NOTE: The Cinemania and Music Central components screen consists of
navigational entry points, referred to as pointers. The first visible
screen is referred to as the Title screen, followed by the Contents
screen. If you have gone beyond the Contents screen, click Find and
   continue with Step 3.

3. Click the All button.

4. Click Content Sources, and then click Monthly Updates.

The Find list contains all the reviews included in the file update.
