SYMPTOMS
========

You cannot connect to MSN, The Microsoft Network, using a Motorola
BitSurfr ISDN modem.

CAUSE
=====

By default, the Motorola BitSurfr modem uses the V.120 protocol, which MSN
does not support. Connection to MSN requires synchronous PPP.

RESOLUTION
==========

To change the protocol to synchronous PPP, add the following parameter to
the Extra Settings box for the Motorola BitSurfr modem:

   %A2=95

To add the setting, follow these steps:

1. In Control Panel, double-click Modems.

2. Click the BitSurfr modem, and then click Properties.

3. On the Connection tab, click Advanced.

4. In the Extra Settings box, type "%A2=95" (without quotation marks).

5. Click OK until you return to Control Panel.
