The information in this article applies to:

 - Microsoft Bob versions 1.0, 1.0a
-------------------------------------------------------------------

SYMPTOMS
========

When you run Bob Setup, you receive an error message similar to the
following:

The compressed file d:\u1.cab cannot be decompressed and may
   be corrupt.

RESOLUTION
==========

To end the error message, try one of the following troubleshooting
procedures. Attempt Bob Setup again. If the error message continues, try
another troubleshooting procedure:

                    - Turn off CD-ROM caching.

 - Make approximately 45 MB of hard drive space available. This makes room
for the Bob program files (38 MB) and extra working space.

NOTE: Compressed drives only estimate the amount of free space available
and may need even more than a reported 45 MB available.

 - Free up memory.

NOTE: Bob requires 8 MB of physical RAM, with approximately 5,500k free
extended memory before starting Windows.

Turning Off CD-ROM Caching
--------------------------

Use the steps below for your version of Windows.

Windows 3.1
-----------

1. Open the following file in a text editor, such as Microsoft Notepad:

      C:\Autoexec.bat

where C:\ is the hard drive where you installed Windows.

2. Look for a line that contains the text Smartdrv. At the end
of this line, add "/u" (without the quotation marks). For example,

      C:\Windows\Smartdrv.exe /u

3. Save the Autoexec.bat file and restart your computer.

Windows 95
----------

If you are using Windows 95, please see the following article in
the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

   ARTICLE-ID: Q140583
TITLE : How To Configure CD-ROM Caching For Windows 95

NOTE: If you are using other disk-caching software or hardware,
consult your documentation for information about disabling CD-ROM
caching.

Checking Amount of Memory Available
-----------------------------------

Use the instructions below for your version of Windows:

Windows 3.x
-----------

1. Exit Windows.

2. At the MS-DOS prompt, type the following command, and then
   press ENTER key:

      mem

3. Make a note the figure for extended memory available or free. It
should be at least 5,500k. To free up more, remove unnecessary
device drivers or TSRs from the Config.sys or Autoexec.bat
   files.

For more information about how to accomplish this task in MS-DOS, see
your Windows printed documentation or online Help.

4. Start Windows with the command "Win /s" for Windows 3.1 or
"Win /d:t" for Windows for Workgroups 3.11.

For example, if you are using Windows for Workgroups, type the following
   at the MS-DOS command prompt:

      Win /d:t

5. On the Help menu in Program Manager, click About.

6. Note the memory available. This is the amount of available
physical RAM memory. This number should be at least 5,000k. To free
up more memory, remove items from your StartUp group or from
   the Win.ini load= and run= lines.

For more information about how to accomplish this task in MS-DOS, see
your Windows printed documentation or online Help.

Windows 95
----------

1. Double-click My Computer.

2. On the Help menu, click About Windows 95.

3. Note the amount shown for Physical Memory Available to Windows.
This should be at least 5,000k. To free up more, remove
unnecessary device drivers or TSRs from Config.sys and
Autoexec.bat (especially SmartDrive, which is not needed for
   Windows 95).

For more information about how to accomplish this task in Windows, see
your Windows printed documentation or online Help.
