This article describes the 13 files that are installed in the Microsoft
folder when you install Microsoft Works 4.0 for the Macintosh.
 
MORE INFORMATION

Custom Dictionary       A dictionary file built from
                        added words that are not in the
                        main dictionary file (such as names,
                        special terminology and abbreviations).
 
English Dictionary      The default main dictionary. You can choose a
                        British English or the default American English
                        dictionary. There are also other dictionaries to
                        choose from.
 
Equation Editor         Allows you to create complex equations to be
                        added to technical documents. To access this
                        tool, click Object on the Insert menu, or use
                        the OLE Object tool from the Tool palette.

Help On Help            Information about using the Help system.
 
Microsoft Help          Information about using Works 4.0.
 
Microsoft Setup         This program is used for setting up Works 4.0.
                        Microsoft Works Setup, in the Works 4.0 folder,
                        requires this program to install, modify, or
                        remove Works 4.0.
 
                        NOTE: You cannot modify your Works 4.0
                        installation by double-clicking this tool. Use
                        the Microsoft Works Setup tool in the Works 4.0
                        folder.
 
MS Spelling 2           The spell-checking tool for Works. You can access
                        this file only from within Works.
 
MS Thesaurus            The thesaurus tool for Works. It provides synonyms
                        and related words. You can access this tool only
                        from within Works.
 
MS Info                 This file contains system information. To access
                        the system information, click About Microsoft
                        Works on the Apple menu in Works 4.0. Information
                        about the current system, installed extensions,
                        fonts, and disk storage is located in this file.
 
US English Thesaurus    The default thesaurus dictionary is
                        US English and is located in the
                        Microsoft folder. You can choose from other
                        thesaurus files.
 
WordArt                 This program creates
                        interesting effects with text.
                        Letters can be changed using a variety
                        of shapes, unusual alignments, and
                        3-D effects. However, WordArt cannot
                        be used on Macintosh computers that
                        use the older 68000 microprocessors,
                        and it can be run only from within
                        a program that supports OLE.

Note that the Microsoft folder is also a resource folder for some other
Microsoft programs. There may be other files in this folder.
