SYMPTOMS
========

When you try to print from Works 4.0, you may receive the following error
message:

   No Default Printer Selected.
Use the Windows Control Panel to specify your printer.

You may receive this error even though you have a default printer selected in
Windows 95.

RESOLUTION
==========

This problem may occur with the Hewlett-Packard (HP) LaserJet 5L Printer, Canon
LPB-460, or with other printers using the Windows Printing System.

To correct this problem use one of the following solutions:

 - Download Works4.exe
 - Load the Hewlett-Packard LaserJet 5L (PCL) printer driver

Download Works4.exe
-------------------

The following file is available for download from the Microsoft Software
Library:

After downloading this file, double-click Works4.exe to extract the following 2
files:

 - Readme.txt

 - Wks4fix.exe

The Readme.txt file contains detailed instructions and file information.

To correct the "No Default Printer" error message, run the Wks4fix.exe program by
double-clicking it.

Success and failure codes for Wks4fix.exe are listed later in this article in the
"More Information" section.

Load the Hewlett-Packard LaserJet 5L (PCL) Printer Driver
---------------------------------------------------------

This problem occurs with the HP 5L printer when you use the "B" version of the
LaserJet 5L Printing System (Host) driver rather than the LaserJet 5L (PCL)
driver. You can also resolve this problem by setting the LaserJet 5L (PCL)
driver as your default printer driver.

To determine if you are using the LaserJet 5L Printing System (Host) driver, do
the following:

1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Printers.

2. Use the right mouse button to click on the LaserJet 5L printer icon, and then
click Properties on the menu that appears.

3. If you are using the LaserJet 5L Printing System (Host) driver, the About
button is located on the Print Quality tab. If you are using the LaserJet 5L
(PCL) driver, the About button is located on the Device Options tab.

If the LaserJet 5L (PCL) driver is not installed, you can install it using the
Add Printer tool in the Printers folder. For information about how to do this,
please see your Windows documentation or Online Help.

STATUS
