 - Microsoft Money versions 3.0, 3.0a

SYMPTOM
======

ATM transactions are duplicated or you do not find the correct transaction
when they are matched after download from the bank.

CAUSE
=====

Money is designed to match transactions according to specific guidelines
based upon whether the "Ask Me To Confirm Each Match" option turned on or
off, and whether or not the transaction has a check number.

ATM transactions do not have check numbers. For information on how to turn
on the "Ask Me To Confirm Each Match" option, see the "More Information"
section below.

"Ask Me To Confirm Each Match" Is Turned Off
--------------------------------------------

If the transaction does not contain a check number, Money looks through the
entire account register looking for a transaction that matches the amount
and date. If Money cannot find the matching date, it will enter a
transaction.

"Ask Me To Confirm Each Match" Is Turned On
-------------------------------------------

If the transaction does not contain a check number, Money matches any
transaction with the same amount within the date range specified in the
Online Services options. Money searchs all transactions within the date
period including transactions that are manually marked as Reconciled .
Money assumes that you could have accidentally marked the transaction as
Reconciled, so it will try to match any of the transactions with matching
amounts.

Money for Windows 95 does not attempt to match any transactions that were
electronically downloaded because there is an internal mark on the
transaction that indicates that the transaction was downloaded. You should
see an E in the cleared field indicating that the transaction was
downloaded.

   NOTE: If you have balanced the account, the cleared field may be
         marked with an R, but the internal marker will continue to
         indicate that it was a downloaded transaction. This may be
         confusing because, after balancing the account, it will be
         difficult to tell the difference between a downloaded
         transaction and one that was manually entered.

If there are other transactions entered in the check register with the same
amount as the ATM transaction, Money may try to match them first before
finding your transaction, even if they are marked as reconciled.

RESOLUTION
==========

There are two resolutions to the duplicate ATM transactions issue.

1. Do not manually enter ATM transactions unless you are certain the
   transaction date posted by the bank is correct. Allow Money to enter
   these transactions for you when you connect to Online Banking.

2. Turn on Confirm Match.

To resolve, or limit mismatched ATM transactions, change the Date Range in
Money's Online Banking options.

When "Ask Me To Confirm Each Match" is turned on, you can reduce the date
range Money uses when attempting to find a match. Changing the date range
reduces the number of transactions Money searches.

The date range to use is entirely up to you. For example, if you call
often, change the date range option to look at the last 15 days as opposed
to the default of the last 60 days. If Money does not match the correct
transaction, you can indicate that you want Money to keep searching.
