Excel: DeltaGraph Causes Problems with Excel Files

SUMMARY

DeltaGraph, created by DeltaPoint, Inc., has confirmed a problem with DeltaGraph versions 2.0 and 2.02 that affects Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh documents.

The effects on Microsoft Excel documents are varied. Some known symptoms are:

  • When you double-click a Microsoft Excel document on the desktop, the file may not open.
  • Although the icons for Microsoft Excel documents retain their filenames, they do not have the Microsoft Excel logo. Instead, they resemble a blank sheet of paper.
  • The creator type on Microsoft Excel documents changes to that of a DeltaGraph chart or presentation document.

In most cases you will be able to open these Microsoft Excel documents from within the Microsoft Excel application.

To work around this problem, delete a file called DGRAPH.XLM which is located in the "Samples" folder (the "Samples" folder should be located in the folder where you installed DeltaGraph). Once you delete the DGRAPH.XLM file, you will need to rebuild the desktop. To rebuild the desktop, press and hold down COMMAND+OPTION and restart your Macintosh.

A new version of DeltaGraph (version 2.03) is available, which, according to DeltaPoint, solves this problem. DeltaGraph version 2.03 contains an updated DGRAPH.XLM file that corrects the behavior described in this article. Registered DeltaGraph users can obtain this maintenance release at no charge.
