PRJ: Print Jobs Incomplete or Slow with PostScript Printer |
Q102760
The information in this article applies to:
-
Microsoft Project for Windows, versions 1.0, 3.0, 3.0a, 4.0
-
the operating system: Microsoft Windows 3.1
SYMPTOMS
When you print to a PostScript printer from Microsoft Project, your
print job may be incomplete and cause an error at the printer or your
print job may take an extremely long time to print.
WORKAROUNDS
To work around this situation follow the appropriate procedure below.
If Your Print Job Is Incomplete
If your print job is incomplete and you receive an error message at
the printer (usually a printed page stating the offending command, the
error, and the stack information), do the following:
- Start Windows File manager.
- In the WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory, select the TESTPS.TXT file.
- From the File menu, choose Copy. In the To box, type the port for
the printer on which the error is occurring.
For example, type "LPT1:"
(without the quotation marks).
- After the printer has finished printing, the printed page displays
Max Printer VM (KB) and Max Suggested VM (KB) values. Make a note
of these values.
- Start Microsoft Project.
- From the File menu, choose Print Setup. Select your PostScript
printer and choose OK.
- In the Setup dialog box for the printer, choose the Options button.
In the Options dialog box, choose the Advanced button.
- Change the Virtual Memory setting to the Max Suggested VM (KB)
value that you found in step 4.
NOTE: You may also want to select the Clear Memory Per Page check box.
However, note also that selecting this option will increase print
times.
- Choose OK in each of the dialog boxes until you return to Microsoft
Project. Print your project again.
If Your Print Job Is Taking a Long Time to Print
You may be able to increase the speed at which your print job can be
printed by reducing the complexity of the print job. One way to do
this is to format your gridlines so that they use solid lines instead
of dashed or dotted lines. To change your gridlines on a Gantt chart,
Task Sheet, Resource Sheet, Resource Usage, or Resource Graph, do the
following:
- From the Format menu, choose Gridlines.
- For each gridline category that you currently have showing, select
Line To Change. Under Line Type, select the second line (a solid
line). Choose OK.
