Windows NT SCSI Drivers Don't Recognize Device Types Above 7Fh

SYMPTOMS

The Windows NT SCSI port and class drivers do not currently support any SCSI device types above 7Fh. This may cause problems with current and future SCSI devices that have device types greater than 7Fh.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT and Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1. This problem was corrected in the latest U.S. Service Pack for Windows NT and Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1. SCSI device types are used in certain SCSI commands, such as Inquiry, to determine what type of SCSI device is connected to the host controller.

Below is a list of common SCSI device types:

00h = Direct Access
01h = Sequential Access
02h = Printer
03h = Processor
04h = Write Once
05h = CD-ROM
06h = Scanner
07h = Optical Memory
08h = Medium Changer
09h = Communications
