FIX: APPEND FROM Increases Database Size in FoxPro

SYMPTOMS

Issuing the following command increases the size of the database's memo field (the <database>.FPT file):

   APPEND FROM <database> FOR .F.

This command should not append any records to the database or change the size of the memo field.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, use the PACK command to reduce the size of the memo field.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in FoxPro 2.5 for MS-DOS. This problem was corrected in FoxPro 2.5a for MS-DOS.

To reproduce this problem, issue the following commands in the Command window:

   USE salesman
   COPY STRUCTURE TO memotest
   USE memotest
   APPEND FROM salesman FOR .F.
