The default port used by Terminal in Windows NT can be set by doing the following:

WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious, system-wide problems that may require you to reinstall Windows NT to correct them. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use this tool at your own risk.

1. Run Registry Editor (REGEDT32.EXE).
2. Select the following Registry subkey:

         HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Terminal
   						

3. In the Registry Value Window, select the Port parameter.
4. From the Edit menu, choose String.
5. In String Editor, change the port name to the proper port for your modem.
   
   NOTE: This parameter is case sensitive. Use uppercase letters for the port name.

If you change the value of Terminal's default port to a valid COM port name that is not recognized by Windows NT, Terminal attempts to start a Telnet session. If the Telnet service has been started, you receive the Telnet> prompt in the Terminal window. If the Telnet service was not started, you receive the above error message.
