Cursor May Disappear When Using Wagtail with ATI Ultra Pro

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Wagtail cursor provided with Windows NT on a system equipped with an ATI Ultra Pro video adapter, the cursor may disappear entirely when exiting a full screen Command Prompt. When you move the mouse, the cursor will eventually reappear.

RESOLUTION

Change the default cursor to one other than Wagtail.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT version 3.1 and Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

Steps to Reproduce Problem

  1. In the Control Panel window, choose the Cursors icon and change the default cursor to Wagtail.
  2. Open a Command Prompt in full screen mode, then exit it. At this point, the cursor is not visible on the screen.
The cursor should reappear after you move the mouse.

NOTE: To reproduce this problem, these steps must be carried out on a system with an ATI Ultra Pro video adapter.
