Using the Windows NT Emergency Repair Disk on a MIPS System

SUMMARY

The procedure to use the Windows NT Emergency Repair Disk on a RISC-based computer is different from the procedure on an x86-based computer. On an x86-based system, the repair utility is run by booting from a startup disk that was created during the installation of Windows NT. On a RISC-based computer, no startup disk is created, as the RISC-based computers do not automatically start from a floppy disk.

Use the following procedure to use the Emergency Repair Disk on a RISC-based computer:

1. Insert the Windows NT CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.
2. Start your computer.
3. From the list of choices on the firmware menu, select Run A Program.
4. When you are prompted for the program to run, type the following and press ENTER:

   CD:\MIPS\SETUPLDR

5. When the setup screen appears, type R to run the repair utility.
6. Insert the repair disk into drive A as prompted and continue to follow the instructions on the screen.
