Backup Err Msg: Fatal Error on Drive 1

SYMPTOMS

When you try to restore information from a backup on an Archive 2250 tape drive, the following error message appears:
Fatal error on drive 1
Also, in Event Viewer the following message is logged:
The device \Device\Tape0 has a bad block
You cannot retrieve the backup information.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT and Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1. This problem was corrected in the latest U.S. Service Pack for Windows NT and Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1.
