SYMPTOMS

Column gridlines for the Gantt chart will not be printed correctly if you are using a Hewlett-Packard (HP) LaserJet 4L printer. When you print the Gantt chart, the major gridlines will not match up with the title vertical gridlines. Furthermore, framed milestones and Gantt bars may be printed as filled black shapes.

WORKAROUND

To work around these problems, use the appropriate method below.

Method 1: To work around both issues, install the Hewlett Packard LaserJet III driver. This driver will allow Microsoft Project to correctly print the gridlines, milestones, and Gantt bars.

Method 2: To print gridlines correctly, set the Graphics mode to HP-GL/2 in the Options dialog box in print setup.

To use framed milestones and Gantt bars:

From the Format menu, choose Palette.

Select the Sample for Milestone.

For the Start shape, change Type to Framed.

Select the Sample for the Critical bar.

For the Bar shape, change the Pattern to the fourth bar in the list.

Repeat Steps 4-5 for the Noncritical bar.

Choose OK.

When the Gantt Chart is printed, the Framed Milestones will be printed as filled-in black diamonds and noncritical tasks will be black bars. If any of the noncritical tasks have progress, the progress bar will not appear.

Method 3: To print the framed milestones and Gantt bars correctly, set the Graphics mode to Raster in the Options dialog box in the Print Setup dialog box, and set the Pattern for the Noncritical bar (in the Format Palette dialog box) to a pattern that is not solid. NOTE: Setting the graphics mode to Raster may cause the gridlines to be printed incorrectly because they look best when printed with the graphics mode set to HP-GL/2.
