Changing NonPagedPool Value Causes Boot Problems

SYMPTOMS

If you change the NonPagedPool value in the Registry database to a value greater than one third of the physical memory (RAM) on your computer the following behavior occurs:

  • RISC-based computers no longer boot.
  • x86-based computers continuously reboot.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT and Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1. This problem was corrected in the latest U.S. Service Pack for Windows NT and Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1.
