SUMMARY

PCMCIA add-on cards are used mainly in notebook and laptop computers. They use special interfaces the size of a credit card for devices such as network cards or modems. These cards are based on a specification originally designed for memory cards.

These cards are not directly supported in Windows NT. In order for PCMCIA cards to work under MS-DOS, a device driver is required. In order for the cards to work under Windows NT, they would require a device driver written specifically for Windows NT.

These cards may be supported in future updates or releases of Windows NT. Currently, unless the manufacturer of the PCMCIA device writes a Windows NT driver, they do not operate with Windows NT.
