Chapter-Page Numbers Appear Only in One Section |
Q106050
The chapter number portion of a page number will appear only in the section of the document that the insertion point was in when you selected the Include Chapter Number option. (This option is in the Format Page Number dialog box. To locate this option, choose Page Numbers from the Insert menu, and choose the Format button.)
When you insert page numbers into a document, they will be placed in
all the headers or footers for all sections of the document regardless
of the current selection in the document. However, the format options
for page numbers are section properties and, thus, apply only to the
sections that are selected when the formatting is applied. (Format
options are those available in the Format Page Number dialog box. They
include Number Format, Include Chapter Number, and the page numbering
start options.)
If you insert page numbers and select Include Chapter Number when the
insertion point is located in a single section, Word places page
numbers in all sections, but only the section containing the insertion
point will have a chapter number included with the page number.
To apply a chapter-page number format (or other page number format) to
the whole document, choose Select All from the Edit menu before making
page number formatting choices.
