SYMPTOMS

If you have a system board with an AMI ROM BIOS on it Windows NT may stop responding (hang) when you try to write to a floppy disk drive.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, try one of the following:

  • Slow the system down by turning off caching, disabling shadowing and/or using the turbo button.
  • If that approach works, enable the caching and shadowing again. Then, in the advanced chip set options, try setting the I/O recovery options to their maximum value. According to AMI, if I/O recovery time is insufficient, device drivers, particularly for UNIX and XENIX will fail. The exact description of the I/O recovery options vary from one BIOS model to another.
