PRJ: Total Slack Calculated Incorrectly Using FF/SS Relationship

SYMPTOMS

Total slack may not be calculated correctly when tasks are linked using a SS (start to start) or FF (finish to finish) relationship and may cause a task to show as non critical.


WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, change the FF relationship between T1 and T2 to FS (finish to Start) with a one day lead.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. From the View menu, choose Task Entry.


  2. Enter three tasks, T1, T2, T3, and assign the tasks with a duration of 2d, 2d, and 3d, respectively.


  3. Select T1 through T3 and from the Edit menu, choose Link.


  4. Press the F6 key to activate the Task Form.


  5. From the Format menu, choose Predecessor and Successors.


  6. In the Gantt Chart, select task T1.


  7. In the Task Form, change the successor relationship to FF and enter a 1d lag.


  8. In the Gantt Chart, select T2.


  9. In the Task Form, change the successor task relationship to SS and enter a 1d lag.


The task T1 will calculate total slack at two days, but if the duration of task T1 is increased the end date of the project will change.
