MSWORD6.CNV Not Supported for Use Under Windows Version 3.0 |
Q107772
This limitation exists because Word 6.0 uses object linking and embedding
(OLE) 2.0 for file storage. Therefore, several OLE 2.0 files are required
for the converter to read Word 6.0 files. These OLE files are not
guaranteed to work under Windows 3.0.
This does not represent a problem with Word, the Word 6.0 Converter, or OLE
2.0. OLE 2.0 was released after the release of Windows 3.1, and Windows 3.1
is its minimum operating system requirement.
If you are running Word 2.0 under Windows 3.0 and you received a document from another user in Word 6.0 format, you must have this document reopened in Word 6.0 and resaved in Word 2.0 format before you can open in on your machine.
The OLE 2.0 files supplied with and installed in your <windows>\SYSTEM subdirectory (where <windows> is the location of your Windows program directory) by the Microsoft Word for Windows 6.0 Converter Kit (part number 059-150-345) Setup program include the following:
