Graphics Embedded from EPS in WordPerfect Appear Blank in Word |
Q107793
When encapsulated PostScript (EPS) graphics that don't included bitmap (usually TIFF) preview images are embedded in a WordPerfect document and that document is subsequently opened in Word 6.0, an empty frame will appear in the converted file.
This problem occurs because Word requires a bitmap preview image to display
an EPS image on-screen. Because the original graphic inserted into
WordPerfect does not contain any data for display, Word has no way of
generating a display image independently. In addition, because the WPG
graphic import filter does not retain the original PostScript image code
embedded in the WordPerfect document, the image also cannot be printed from
Word.
Note: When an image is inserted from EPS file format into WordPerfect, the
original graphic data is retained but is embedded in the document in
WordPerfect's own WPG graphic format.
If you must continue working with EPS files that don't include preview
images, a workaround that will allow the images to be printed to a
PostScript printer in either product is to use the option to link to
"graphic on disk" when inserting the image into WordPerfect. Word will
subsequently re-insert the graphic from the original file when converting
the WordPerfect document. Word retains the original PostScript image code
in this scenario, thus enabling printing of the image following conversion.
An empty frame will still be displayed on-screen.
Alternatively, you can utilize EPS files with preview images or use another
source graphic file format.
The problem described above is not a limitation of Word 6.0. As indicated
above, WordPerfect itself cannot display an EPS graphic that has no bitmap
preview image. In fact, no major word processing application supports
interpretation of PostScript code for display.
When an EPS graphic without preview image is embedded (not linked to
graphic on disk) in a WordPerfect document, the original PostScript data
from the EPS file is stored in the document. However, because the image
contains no bitmap preview image to render for display, WordPerfect
displays the following message within the figure box on-screen:
