System Hangs if Start/Stop Range Exceeds Source

When performing a step capture, you can enter time limits that exceed the length of the source videodisc (that is, you can capture frames beyond the end of the video source). In this case, the system will stop responding (hang).

Steps to Reproduce the Problem

  1. Run VidCap.

  2. From the Capture menu, choose Video.

  3. Select the option labeled: MCI control of source video.

  4. Choose MCI.

  5. In the MCI window, set Capture Stop to something that exceeds the end of the source videodisc.

    NOTE: When the capture goes beyond the length of the source videodisc, the system hangs.

WORKAROUND

When using this option, be sure the set start and stop times are within a valid range for the source videodisc. Video for Windows does not check to make sure the range you set is within the available range on the videodisc.
