"Cannot Find the Graphic" While Opening WordPerfect Document |
Q108866
When you open into Word 6.0 a WordPerfect 5.x document that contains links to graphic files on disk in formats other than WPG (for example, PCX, EPS, or TIFF), you may receive the following error message even when the supporting graphic files are available in the expected directory location:
If you re-specify the path to the graphic file(s) and click OK, you may receive the error message again.Cannot find the graphic file specified by the document. Please enter the full path to the desired file and click OK. Click Ignore to skip this graphic and continue converting the document. Click Cancel to cancel document conversion.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem with the WordPerfect 5.x converter supplied with Word 6.0 and 6.0a for Windows. This problem has been resolved in the WordPerfect 5.x converter supplied with Word 6.0c for Windows.
This problem has been corrected in the converter supplied with Word 6.0c
for Windows. If the error message occurs with the converter supplied with
Word 6.0c, simply move the graphic files into the same directory as the
WordPerfect document.
If you are using Word 6.0a and you receive this message for a non-WPG
graphic to which the WordPerfect document you are opening into Word
contains a link, choose Ignore. If the graphic file is saved in a format
supported by Word and the graphic file is in the same directory as the
WordPerfect file, Word will actually still find and import the graphic(s)
at the conclusion of the conversion process even though you've received an
error and have chosen to ignore the image.
When creating a figure in WordPerfect, you have the option of linking to a
"graphic on disk" when retrieving a graphic image. This option is the
conceptual equivalent of linking to a graphic file but not saving the
picture within a document when inserting a picture into Word 6.0.
The error message referenced above is designed to appear when a graphic to
which a WordPerfect document contains a link actually doesn't exist in the
directory location specified by the link.
