Linked/Non-Embedded Graphics Lost Saving to Foreign Formats |
Q108868
If you choose to link to picture files but not save picture files in your document when inserting a picture into Word 6.0, these pictures will not be retained if you subsequently save the document in WordPerfect, Word for MS-DOS, Word for Windows 2.0, RTF, Works for Windows, Publisher 2.0 for Windows, or Write for Windows file formats.
Word 6.0's internal RTF writer does not include a field result (display
image) for an INCLUDEPICTURE field when the field includes the \d switch.
The \d switch specifies that graphic data is not stored with a Word file.
All export converters supplied with Word 6.0 are dependent upon RTF data
passed to them by Word. If the RTF data contains no display image, pictures
will therefore not be retained in conversion to a foreign file format.
If you plan to save a Word 6.0 document in one of the foreign file formats referenced above and want to retain picture images, always leave the option to save pictures in your document active when importing pictures into Word.
Note: Word does not support graphic retention when exporting to file formats other than those listed above. Therefore, the problem referenced above is irrelevant to any other avenues of export conversion.
