PUB: "Unable to Communicate with Server" Error Opening File

SYMPTOMS
========

When you open a Publisher 2.0 document containing Works 2.0 objects,
some or all of the linked and embedded objects may appear blank if Works
for Windows 3.0 is on the computer. When activated, the objects may
cause the following error:

   Unable to communicate with server

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed
at the beginning of this article. The problem was corrected in Microsoft 
Publisher version 2.0a.

RESOLUTION
==========

Without upgrading to Publisher 2.0a, there is no workaround other than
re-creating each linked or embedded object.

MORE INFORMATION
================

The information in each object is still present; there is just a
problem displaying and accessing the object. The problem is related to
the way that Publisher reads the REG.DAT file. Publisher 2.0a corrects
the problem.
