SYMPTOMS

If you attach a Word for Windows document and a file from another Windows- based application to an electronic mail (email) message and then send it when Microsoft At Work PC Fax is your default printer driver, the second application (the one whose file is attached following the Word document) may cause a general protection (GP) fault in one of the Microsoft At Work PC Fax files. For example, the following GP fault may occur if you send an email message that contains a Word document and a Windows Write .WRI file:

Write caused a General Protection Fault in EFAXPUMP.DLL at 0001:59D2

CAUSE

This error occurs only if Word is not running when you send the email message and if the Word document is the first attachment to print when you send the email message. If Word is already running in the background or if you print the Word document second, no GP fault occurs.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word for Windows version 6.0. This problem was corrected in Word version 6.0a.

WORKAROUND

Use one of the following methods to avoid a GP fault when you send Word documents as email attachments if Microsoft At Work PC Fax is the default printer:

• Make sure Word is already running in the background.

• Place the Word document after any other files you send as attachments in your email message. That is, send the Word document last.
