XL: Can't Access Add-Ins When in Group Edit Mode

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel for Windows, versions 5.0, 5.0c
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows 95, version 7.0
  • Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, version 5.0

SUMMARY

In Microsoft Excel versions 5.x and 7.0, it is not possible to access the Add-Ins command (located on the Tools menu) when more than one sheet is active (that is, you are in Group Edit mode).

NOTE: In earlier versions of Microsoft Excel, you can use the Add-Ins command in Group Edit mode.

WORKAROUND

To access the Add-Ins command, you must exit Group Edit mode. To do this, do the following:

  1. Click any sheet tab in the current workbook.

  2. From the shortcut menu, choose Ungroup Sheets.

You can then choose Add-Ins from the Tools menu.
