--------------------------------------------------------------------- The information in this article applies to: - Microsoft Publisher version 2.0 --------------------------------------------------------------------- SYMPTOMS ======== If you disable TrueType fonts, if your fonts are corrupted, or if your printer driver does not recognize TrueType fonts, you may receive the following errors when working with PageWizard Design Assistants: Zikes! Sorry, <PageWizard> cannot run without TrueType fonts. -or- Zikes! This design assistant can’t find one of the fonts it needs to create your publication. A different font will be substituted, but the publication may not look as it was designed to look. RESOLUTION ========== To enable TrueType fonts, do the following: 1. Open the Windows Program Manager. 2. From the File menu, choose Run. 3. Type "control" (without the quotation marks) and press ENTER. 4. In the Control Panel, double-click Fonts. 5. In the Fonts tool, press the button labeled TrueType. 6. Select the Enable TrueType Fonts check box and choose OK. 7. Close the Fonts tool and the Control Panel and return to Publisher. To check for corrupted fonts, do the following: 1. Open the Windows Program Manager. 2. From the File menu, choose Run. 3. Type "control" (without the quotation marks) and press ENTER. 4. In the Control Panel, double-click Fonts. 5. Click each font in the list of installed fonts. Look for fonts that either show no sample, or that have a file size of 0. (The file size is reported at the bottom of the dialog box.) 6. If a font is corrupted, remove it and then add it back using the Remove and Add buttons in the Fonts tool. (Tip: Most, if not all, of your fonts are stored in the WINDOWS\SYSTEM subdirectory.) Make sure that your printer driver is dated 3/10/92 or later, and that it is not the Generic Text driver. To check your printer driver, do the following: 1. From the Help menu in Publisher, choose About Microsoft Publisher. 2. Choose the System Info button. 3. In the Choose A Category list box, choose Printing. 4. In the list of installed printers, check the date of your driver. If your driver is older than 3/10/92, it doesn’t recognize TrueType fonts. Replace it with a Windows 3.1 driver from your printer manufacturer or from the Windows 3.1 Setup disks. Additional query words: error message err msg
