Works: Templates Still Listed after Removing Them

If you delete the AutoStart Templates with Microsoft Works Setup, the template lines in the MSWORKS3.INI file are not removed. This occurs because Setup uses a special instruction for adding the lines, which automatically increments the .INI key to avoid overwriting INI .keys already present in the MSWORKS3.INI file. Due to the numeric counter in these .INI keys, Setup does not know what the .INI entries are and, as a result, cannot remove them.

When you select a deleted AutoStart Template from the AutoStart box, the following occurs:

The Template name is removed from the MSWORKS3.INI.

The last Template entry replaces the deleted one.

The TemplateMax= value is decreased.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE PROBLEM

NOTE: These steps assume the following: Income Statement template is Name11 in the [Template Section] of the MSWORKS3.INI, Video Collection is the last template entry and is Name40, and the TemplateMax=40)1. Run Works Setup and remove the Templates.

1. In Works 3.0, choose Create New File from the File menu.
2. In the Startup dialog box, choose the Use A Template button.
3. In the Template dialog box, select the AutoStart Business template group, the Business Planning category, and the Income Statement Template.
4. Choose Yes to the resulting message regarding removing the template.

Results:

The following occurs :

1. The information after Name11 in the [Template Section] is removed.
2. The Video Collection information is removed after Name40 and placed after Name11.
   
   NOTE: The actual words "Name11" and "Name40" are not removed from the MSWORKS3.INI file.
3. The TemplateMax= value is decreased to 39.
