SYMPTOMS

Under certain circumstances, the Winlogon service terminates a spawned thread, but does not release the handle to the thread. After many instances of this behavior, this "leak" may cause the server to return System Error 8 "Not enough storage is available to process this command" when other computers attempt to access the server.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT and Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1. This problem was corrected in the latest U.S. Service Pack for Windows NT and Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1.
