SYMPTOMS
After you install Word for Windows on a laptop computer, the following
error message may occur when you attempt to start Word, even though you
restarted (rebooted) the computer so the changes in your Autoexec.bat
and Config.sys files could take effect:
Word cannot save or create this file. Make sure the disk is not
write protected. <path><filename>
CAUSE
When you restart (reboot) some laptop computers, they run in a standby
mode instead of actually restarting. Therefore, MS-DOS does not process
the modified Config.sys and Autoexec.bat files.
RESOLUTION
You must turn off the laptop computer and then turn it on again to
fully restart (reboot) it. This causes the operating system to process
the modified Autoexec.bat and Config.sys files so that the changes made
by Word Setup can take effect.
