PRB: Persistent Network Connection Problems w/ WFW 3.1 or 3.11ID: Q110979 The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMSMicrosoft Delta loses connection to the network drive. Delta’s connection may be reestablished by clicking the network drive button in File Manager; however, the connection will be lost again after a period of idle time.
CAUSEOn some workstations, you cannot access network drives that have nonpersistent connections. Nonpersistent network connections may be created by Windows for Workgroups (WFW) version 3.11. Ghosted Connections (open Control Panel in WFW 3.11, choose Network, and then choose the Startup button) allows WFW 3.11 to start up faster because persistent connections are not made until the drive is needed by an application.
RESOLUTION
WFW 3.11. Disconnect all network drives from File Manager. 2. Exit Windows. 3. Delete CONNECT.DAT located in the Windows directory. 4. Reconnect your network drives, with the Reconnect At Startup check box WFW 3.111. Turn Ghosted Connections off. Ghosted Connections is located in Control 2. Restart Windows.
Note: If problems with persistent connections continue, follow the steps outlined in the RESOLUTIONS section under WFW 3.1. Additional query words: 1.00 checkbox
