Works: Cannot Adjust Vertical Axis Values with Fractional Data

SYMPTOMS

If the data used for the Y series in a Works for Windows chart is formatted as a fraction, changing the minimum, maximum, and interval values for the Vertical (Y) Axis will not affect the chart.

RESOLUTION

Format the fractional data in the spreadsheet as General or Fixed using the following steps:

  1. Highlight the data in the spreadsheet that is formatted as a Fraction.
  2. From the Format menu, choose Number.
  3. Under Format, select either General or Fixed and choose OK.

Steps to Reproduce Problem

  1. Create a new Works for Windows spreadsheet.
  2. Enter the letters a, b, and c in the first three cells of column A.
  3. Enter the numbers 10 1/8, 20 1/4, and 30 3/8 in the first three cells of column B. Make sure the numbers are a fraction by choosing Number from the Format menu and selecting Fraction in the Format list.
  4. Highlight the data and click the New Chart button on the toolbar or choose Create New Chart from the Tools menu.
  5. Choose OK in the New Chart dialog box to select the default settings.
  6. From the Format menu, choose Vertical (Y) axis. Enter a minimum value of 10, a maximum value of 35, and an interval of 5. Choose OK. Note that the chart does not adjust for these new settings as it should.
