  • Apple Macintosh operating system, version 7.1

SUMMARY

The Macintosh System 7.1 Pro Compatibility Checker recommends that you upgrade from version 3.0 or 4.0 of Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh to version 4.0a. However, there is no version 4.0a for the Macintosh.

MORE INFORMATION

When you run the compatibility checker before you install the Apple Macintosh System 7.1 Pro, Microsoft Excel version 3.0 or 4.0 is flagged and you receive the following message:

Your version of this software is earlier than the versions for which we
have compatibility information. The latest version of this software is
version 4.0a. Contact Microsoft Corp. for upgrade information.

Although there is a Microsoft Excel version 4.0a for Windows, there is no version 4.0a for the Macintosh. Version 4.0a for Windows was issued as a maintenance release to correct problems that were corrected in Microsoft Excel version 4.0 for the Macintosh.
