SUMMARY

In Works for Windows, you can disable file transfer capabilities by deleting or renaming the protocol (*.FTD) files that are located in the MSWORKS directory.

After removing the *.FTD files, you will not be able upload or download any files. If you choose Transfer from the Settings menu, the option to select a protocol will not be available. The Transfer protocol box will have "None Available" in it.

To disable the file transfer capabilities, complete the following steps:

  1. Windows 3.11: Open File Manager.

    Windows 95: With your right mouse button, click Start, and then click Explore.
  2. Select the MSWORKS subdirectory (folder).NOTE: The MSWORKS folder maybe in the Program Files folder in Windows 95.

  3. Delete, rename, or move the following files:

    KERMIT.FTD
    ZMODEM.FTD
    XMODEM.FTD
    YMODEM.FTD

The file transfer capabilities of Works for Windows are now disabled.
