SYMPTOMS

If you copy and paste data between two Word Processor files on a shared drive, then close the original file, you may receive the following error message when you try to reopen the original file:

Cannot find file or file already open <path>\<filename>

CAUSE

This occurs because the image in the Clipboard is still linked to the original document that was copied.

RESOLUTION

There are three ways to resolve this problem:

Save the document into which you pasted the information.
Create a new Word Processor document and save it.
If there is a previously saved document already open, switch to that document, and save it with a new name.

Any of the above resolutions will break the link between the document on the shared drive and the local clipboard. Once the link has been broken, you can reopen the file from the shared drive.

Steps to Reproduce Problem

Open a Word Processor document from a shared drive.
Copy a portion of the text from the document.
Close the document that is on the shared drive.
From the File menu, click Create New File and select Word Processor.
From the Edit menu, click Paste.
From the File menu, click Open Existing File and reopen the original document from the shared drive.

At this point, you will get the above error message.
