1. Q. I am using a PageWizard design assistant and it is asking me for
input, but it won't let me type anything. Why?
A. With some video drivers, your PageWizard will be unable to
accept user input. This is a problem with your video driver
and not with Publisher. If this problem occurs, try changing
your video driver to the VGA driver that ships with Windows.
You may also want to contact the manufacturer of your video
driver to obtain an updated video driver. To change your
video driver to VGA, use the following seven-step procedure:
1. Run Windows Setup.
2. From the Options menu, choose Change System Settings.
3. Select the VGA display driver.
4. If prompted, insert the appropriate Windows disks.
5. If given the option to install a new video driver or to
use the current one, choose Install New.
6. Insert the appropriate disks.
7. Restart Windows.
For more information about installing video drivers, refer
to your "Microsoft Windows User's Guide," or contact
Microsoft Windows Product Support Services at (425) 637-7098.
2. Q. My PageWizard design assistant is giving me a "Zikes" error. What
does this mean?
A. The Zikes error message indicates that there is a problem
running the PageWizard. The problem could be related to your
video driver, printer driver, or system settings. For
more information about configuring your system optimally for
running Publisher and for general troubleshooting tips
for Publisher, please order article Q112666 from the Microsoft
Publisher FastTips Catalog.
3. Q. I am getting the error message that Publisher cannot
communicate with WordArt. How do I fix this problem?
A. There are three possible reasons why you might get this error
message:
1. You do not have enough RAM in your computer. Publisher
has a requirement of 4 megabytes (MB) to operate. Without 4
megabytes (MB) of RAM, Publisher's PageWizard design assistants
will be unable to access WordArt.
-or-
2. WordArt is not installed, or has been removed from your
system. If this is the case, re-install Publisher. This
will correct the problem.
-or-
3. The WordArt information in your OLE Registration Database
has become corrupted. If this appears to be the case,
contact Microsoft Publisher Product Support Services at (425)
635-7140 for additional assistance.
4. Q. I am getting an error message saying that Publisher is busy
doing something else. What is Publisher busy doing?
A. This error message indicates that there is a problem running
a PageWizard design assistant. The problem could be related to
your video driver, printer driver, or system settings. For more
information about configuring your system optimally for running
Publisher and for general troubleshooting tips for Publisher,
please order article Q112666 from the Microsoft Publisher FastTips
Catalog.
5. Q. When I use my PageWizard design assistant, it says that it is
going to substitute another font or picture. Why is it doing that?
A. If you do not have the font that the PageWizard is
attempting to use, the PageWizard will substitute a different
font. PageWizards only use the fonts that are included with
Windows and with Publisher. Check your Fonts option in Control
Panel to determine if all of your Publisher and Windows fonts are
installed. If they are not, reinstall the fonts that are missing.
If you deleted, moved, or did not install your Publisher
clip-art images, the PageWizard will substitute a picture for the
one it wants to use. To remedy this problem, reinstall
the Publisher clip-art images by using the Custom Setup option for
Publisher.
6. Q. My PageWizard design assistant stopped working. How can I get it
working again?
A. This problem could be related to your video driver, printer driver,
or system settings. For more information about configuring your
system optimally for running Publisher and for general
troubleshooting tips for Publisher, please order article Q112666 from
the Microsoft Publisher FastTips Catalog.
7. Q. When I use a PageWizard design assistant, the display is
corrupted. Why?
A. If the on-screen dialog boxes for your Publisher PageWizard
are corrupted, it usually means that your video driver
does not support the Windows calls that Publisher is making
to the video driver. The video driver is a piece of software
that controls what you see on your screen in Windows.
To test this problem, switch to the VGA video driver that
ships with Windows, using the following seven-step procedure:
After installing the VGA driver, run Publisher to see if the
problem is remedied. If it is, contact the manufacturer
of your video driver for an updated version.
8. Q. I selected a different language for my PageWizard design
assistant, but it doesn't translate my text into that language.
Why?
A. The language section refers to the language the PageWizard questions
will be in. It does not refer to the language to which the PageWizard
will translate your text. Publisher does not have the ability to
translate your text into another language.
