WordArt 2.0 Stops and Doesn't Respond to Mouse Commands
WordArt 2.0 Stops and Doesn't Respond to Mouse Commands
Q112569
-------------------------------------------------------------------
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Publisher version 2.0
-------------------------------------------------------------------
SYMPTOMS
========
When using Microsoft Publisher 2.0 and WordArt 2.0, Publisher may stop and
not respond to mouse commands. The only alternative is to press the ESC key
twice to return to the Microsoft Publisher main screen.
CAUSE
=====
This problem is caused by the presence of an earlier version of
CTL3D.DLL in the Windows SYSTEM subdirectory. CTL3D.DLL should be dated no
earlier than 6/28/93.
NOTE: Some programs use CTL3D.DLL. As a result, running such a program
before running Publisher's Setup program places CTL3D.DLL in memory and
Publisher won't be able to update it.
RESOLUTION
==========
To correct this problem, exit and restart Windows. Before running any other
programs, re-install Publisher.
STATUS
======
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Publisher version 2.0. This
problem was corrected in Publisher version 2.0a. The newer version of
CTL3D.DLL has been included with other Microsoft products, which include
WordArt. Newer versions of WordArt use the CTL3DV2.DLL as a replacement.
