------------------------------------------------------------------- The information in this article applies to: - Microsoft Publisher for Windows, versions 2.0, 2.0a ------------------------------------------------------------------- SUMMARY ======= If you are having trouble running Publisher, some of the following troubleshooting techniques may help. MORE INFORMATION ================ Interoperability with Other Software ------------------------------------ If the problem you are experiencing seems to be related to interoperability with other software, try configuring your system to "clean boot" when you start your computer, as follows: 1. Disable any unnecessary programs, utilities, or terminate-and-stay- resident (TSR) programs. This includes any MS-DOS programs or utilities, any programs or utilities found in the LOAD or RUN lines of the WIN.INI file, and any programs whose icons are found in the STARTUP group in Windows. 2. Make sure Windows is using Program Manager as the shell ("shell=progman.exe" in the SYSTEM.INI file). 3. Use the standard VGA driver that ships with Windows. 4. Disable any font packages or utilities that install themselves as the system driver in the SYSTEM.INI file. 5. Enable all extended RAM for use in Windows, using HIMEM.SYS, the memory manager that ships with Windows and/or DOS. 6. Restart the system. 7. If there was a problem installing Publisher the first time, delete all your Publisher files, and reinstall. If there was no problem installing Publisher, but there have been problems getting it to run, try running it with this "clean boot" configuration. 8. If Publisher now runs as expected, add items back to the system one by one until a problem is encountered. This systematic elimination should help you discover the problem. Printing -------- If the problem you are experiencing seems to be related to printing, try the following steps: 1. Switch to standard VGA; the version that ships with Windows. 2. Check the version of the printer driver to ensure it is a Windows 3.1 printer driver. 3. Try removing the printer driver, deleting the driver file from your local hard drive, then reinstalling it. Importing a Graphic from Another Program or Graphics Package ------------------------------------------------------------ If the problem you are experiencing seems to be related to importing a graphic from another program or graphics package, perform the following steps: 1. Switch to standard VGA; the version that ships with Windows. 2. Try importing the same graphic into another Windows-based application such as Windows Write (in the Accessories group in Windows). 3. Try opening the graphic in another program in Windows, then copy and paste it into Publisher. 4. If the graphic came from a scanning software package, try saving the graphic in a different graphic file format, then import it into Publisher. 5. If you have another paint-type program that has the ability to export graphics, try taking the graphic into such a program and export it in other file formats. Try importing these different file formats. Additional query words: 2.00 2.00a mspub trouble shooting problem 2.00a solving
