SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Project, if you have more than one resource with the same
name, when you drag any resource with this name from the Resource
Assignment dialog box to a task, the first resource in the list that has this name is assigned to the task.
WORKAROUND
To assign multiple resources with the same name to tasks in a project, use
the following steps (the following example assumes your project contains
Task1 and Task2, and two resources named Jane with resource ID numbers 1
and 2):
- From the View menu, choose More Views.
- From the Views list, select Task Entry and choose
Apply.
- On the Gantt chart, select Task1.
- Select the Task Form (the bottom view of the Task Entry
view). In the resource ID field, type 1 and
choose OK.
- On the Gantt chart, select Task2.
- Select the Task Form (the bottom view of the Task Entry
view). In the resource ID field, type 2 and
choose OK.
The resource Jane with ID number 1 is assigned to Task1, while the resource
Jane with ID number 2 is assigned to Task2.
