SYMPTOMS
When you start Microsoft Project and the global file, GLOBAL.MPT, is
missing or damaged, you receive the following error message:
Could not open GLOBAL.MPT. Microsoft Project will create a new
GLOBAL.MPT that does not include any of the built-in macros that were in
the original GLOBAL.MPT. For more information, press the Help button.
A default GLOBAL.MPT file is created when you exit Microsoft Project.
However, this default GLOBAL.MPT file is created without some of the views
and macros that it contained when you installed Microsoft Project, and you
will be missing some functionality in Project.
WORKAROUND
To restore this missing functionality in Microsoft Project when you receive
the above error message and the GLOBAL.MPT file is re-created, do the
following:
- Exit Microsoft Project.
- Copy BACKUP.MPT to GLOBAL.MPT.
- Restart Project.
NOTE: Do not rename BACKUP.MPT. Copy it to GLOBAL.MPT so that you always
have a copy available as a backup.
