SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project, when you export a project--for example, by saving the project to the .MPX file format--and then open the exported project, the Created field for each task in the project contains the current date instead of the date the task was created.

CAUSE

The Created field is a calculated task field that is available in the Microsoft Project versions listed at the beginning of this article. When you add a task to your project, this field is set to the current date, found in the Summary Info dialog box. Because the Created field is included in the Export table by default, it is included when you export a project. However, because it is a calculated field, it is ignored when you open an exported project. As a result, when you open an exported project, the current date is used as the created date for all of the tasks in the project.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
