SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project, when you clear the Delay Only Within Slack check box in the Resource Leveling dialog box, and you have the Automatic leveling option selected, overallocated resources in your project are not leveled when you choose OK.

Note that your resources are not leveled in this case when you choose the Level Now button in the Resource Leveling dialog box in Microsoft Project 4.0, or the Level Now command from the Options menu in Microsoft Project version 3.0.

WORKAROUND

To level your resources after you have cleared the Delay Only Within Slack check box in the Leveling dialog box, enter another task in the project or edit a field in the project to force the project to recalculate.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

1. In a new project, choose Resource Leveling from the Tools menu. Under Leveling, select the Automatic option. Select the Delay Only Within Slack check box, and then choose OK.



2. On the Gantt Chart, enter two tasks, T1 and T2. Select T1.



3. From the Standard toolbar, choose the Resource Assignment button. In the Name column, type Res1 and press ENTER. Choose the Assign button. On the Gantt Chart, select T2. In the Resource Assignment dialog box, select Res1, and choose Assign.



4. Choose the Continue button in the Cannot resolve overallocation... dialog box.



5. From the Tools menu, choose Resource Leveling. Clear the Delay Only Within Slack check box and choose OK.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
