Word 6.0 for Windows Hangs Converting a WordPerfect Document |
Q113486
The following problems can occur when you open a WordPerfect document in
Word 6.0 or 6.0a for Windows:
In WordPerfect when you mark text for a table of contents, WordPerfect
inserts the table-of-contents entry code [Mark:ToC,1] before the text and
[End Mark:ToC,1] after the text. The number represents the level number for
the marked text.
Word for Windows converts any text or codes found between the [Mark:ToC,1]
and [End Mark:ToC,1] codes to Word table-of-content entries (that is, \TC
fields).
Word table-of-contents entries cannot contain boxes or graphics. Thus, Word
hangs when it encounters a box or graphic inside a table-of-contents entry
in the converted WordPerfect document.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Word 6.0 and 6.0a for Windows WordPerfect converter. We are researching this problem and will post new information here as it becomes available.
In WordPerfect, open the document, turn on Reveal Codes, and look for
[Mark:ToC,1] and [End Mark:ToC,1] table-of-contents codes that contain
boxes or Vlines or Hlines (vertical or horizontal lines). Then move the box
or line codes after the [End Mark:ToC,1] code and save the file.
Word will now open and scroll through the file successfully.
