PRB: Lost LAN Manager Network and Printer Connections

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

When you are running on a Microsoft LAN Manager network, your network and printer connections will occasionally be lost. You may receive some of the following error messages:

File Not Found
File Does Not Exist
Cannot Create File
Use of Transgressed Handle
Invalid File Handle


RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, do the following:

  1. Increase the "chartime" setting in the workstation's LANMAN.INI file.


  2. Load SMARTDRV in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file.


  3. Set the "sesstimeout" setting in the workstation's LANMAN.INI file to 127.


  4. Set the fifteenth "srvheuristics" parameter in the workstation's LANMAN.INI file to 9 (no time-out).
