SYMPTOMS
Windows for Workgroups 3.x clients cannot view or access a shared printer
after the printer has been removed and recreated with the same printer
properties using Print Manager; the following error message appears:
Error 53
Network path not found.
This problem occurs only when you choose a device name from the Network
Printer list in the Print To list box of the Create Printer dialog box.
Windows NT and Windows NT Advanced Server computers are still able to view
and access the shared printer.
WORKAROUND
To recreate a printer using the same properties and to avoid this problem,
do the following:
- Create the printer, and select a local device in the Print To list box.
- Choose the Details button, and then select Network Printer in the Print
To Additional Ports list box.
- Choose the Delete Port button.
- Choose the OK button to close the Printer Details windows.
- In the Print To list box, select Network Printer, and then redefine the
local device deleted in step 3.
