SYMPTOMS

Using Protect Data in a Works Database document disables the ability to delete data from unlocked fields in form view.

RESOLUTION

To delete the data in the unlocked field, do any of the following:
  • Highlight the data in the unlocked field, and either click Cut on the Edit menu, click the Cut button on the toolbar, or press CTRL+X on the keyboard. These commands work on unlocked fields with protect data turned on. -or-

  • Highlight the data in the formula bar and press the DEL key on the keyboard. -or-

  • Remove the data protection while deleting data in the field. -or-

  • Switch to list view to delete the data in the field.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Works version 3.0 for Windows. This problem no longer occurs in Works 4.0 or later. In Works 4.0, 4.5, and 4.5a, protection now applies to individual fields only and is available on the Format menu in either List view or form Design view.
