SYMPTOMS
After you level a project, the total cost of a summary task may increase.
CAUSE
If a resource has been assigned to a summary task, and if delay was added
to the subordinate tasks after leveling, the summary task's duration will be extended. This extended duration will cause the total cost of the summary task to increase.
WORKAROUND
To ensure that cost is not increased when you level a project, do not assign resources to summary tasks.
MORE INFORMATION
When you assign a resource to a summary task, the resource should not be
working on subordinate tasks for that summary task. Resources assigned to a
summary task should represent the person who is in charge of the total
duration of all the subordinate tasks for that summary task. When a summary
task's duration is extended, the workload of the resource responsible for
the summary task also increases.
